Sosua is a beautiful seaside town in the island of Dominican Republic, with a rich history and cultural heritage dating back to the 1930`s when Sosua was turned from an old banana-producing town to a more productive one by the Jewish refugees fleeing Hitler's persecution during WWII. Still proud of its Jewish-related past, Sosua still has about 25 Jewish families who keep their traditions alive, and the Sosua Jewish Museum is the place to go if you would like to learn and see about the history of Sosua. One of the main producers of dairy products and meat products in the Dominican Republic was born out of this town, bearing the name of Productos Sosua.

This beautiful town with golden sand beaches and blue skies became the first important tourist destination of the Dominican Republic in the eighties, when the Playa Dorada complex was inaugurated and the tourism industry was born in the Dominican Republic. Sosua beaches are among the most beautiful ones in the Caribbean, with thousands of tourists visiting each year from Europe and North America. Besides Sosua beach, there`s a new beach newly formed about 6 years ago, at the Calle Sin Salida ( Cul de Sac ) street besides the Waterfront. This beautiful beach is the one in the background of this text, also considered the second beach in Sosua and mostly used by foreign travelers. Other beaches are also available, many in nearer towns such as Cabarete, a famous spot for kite surfers and wind surfers. Playa Encuentro in between is the best surfing beach in the whole Dominican Republic. Puerto Plata, just 25 minutes away has beautiful beaches in Playa Dorada, also in the main ocean drive ( Malecon ) which is called Long beach.
